Mutual Action Plans

3 min read

A mutual action plan is the single most powerful tool for moving a deal from evaluation to close. It transforms the deal from something you are selling into something you are building together. And it kills the ambiguity that lets deals stall indefinitely.

The MAP lists every step between now and signature, with dates and owners for both sides. "Your team reviews the security questionnaire by March 5. We deliver the custom demo environment by March 8. Legal red-lines by March 12. Final approval meeting March 15. Signature target March 18." When both sides agree to this plan, you have a deal with a timeline. Without it, you have a deal with a hope.

MUTUAL ACTION PLAN
===================

Target Close: [Date]
Account: [Name]

DATE │ OWNER │ ACTION
────────────┼───────────┼──────────────────────────────
[Date] │ Us │ Deliver custom demo environment
[Date +3] │ Them │ Complete security questionnaire review
[Date +5] │ Us │ Submit proposal with agreed pricing
[Date +7] │ Them │ Internal champion presentation
[Date +10] │ Them │ Legal red-line of contract
[Date +12] │ Us │ Address legal feedback
[Date +14] │ Them │ Economic buyer final sign-off
[Date +15] │ Both │ Contract execution

RISK FLAGS:
  - [Any step without a confirmed date]
  - [Any step without a named owner]
  - [Any step depending on someone not yet engaged]

AI monitors MAP execution in real time. When a buyer-side step misses its date, the system flags it and suggests a response. A one-day slip on the security review is normal. A five-day slip with no communication is a risk signal that something has changed — budget shifted, competitor entered the picture, or your champion lost internal support.

The reps who use mutual action plans close 23% faster than those who do not. Not because the MAP magically accelerates the process — because it makes the process visible. Both sides can see exactly where they are, exactly what is next, and exactly what is blocking progress. Transparency accelerates everything.
