Lead Scoring That Actually Works

Let me tell you about the biggest lie in B2B sales. MQLs and SQLs. Marketing Qualified Leads. Sales Qualified Leads. Sounds clean, sounds professional, sounds like a system that works. It does not.

The average MQL-to-close rate across B2B SaaS is 1.2%. One point two percent. That means for every hundred "qualified" leads marketing sends you, you close one. Maybe two if you are having a good quarter. The qualification criteria? They downloaded a whitepaper. They visited the pricing page. They match the ICP firmographic profile. None of that tells you whether this person has budget authority, active pain, and a timeline to buy.
