Data Ownership Model

3 min read

Data without an owner is data without accountability. When no one owns the accuracy of the customer record, everyone assumes someone else is maintaining it, and no one does. The ownership model assigns a responsible individual or team for each critical data domain. CRM data: Sales Ops owns accuracy. Financial data: Finance owns accuracy. Product data: Product team owns accuracy. Each owner is accountable for the quality scores of their domain and empowered to enforce the standards that maintain them. Ownership is not a ceremonial title — it comes with authority to reject bad data, mandate corrections, and approve process changes that affect data quality.
