Combating Hook Fatigue
3 min read
A hook pattern that works today will stop working in six weeks. Hook fatigue is the predictable decline in engagement when an audience sees the same pattern too many times. "I analyzed [big number] of [things]. Here is what I found" worked in 2024. By 2025, every content creator used it. By 2026, the audience scrolls past it reflexively. The antidote is rotation. Rotate between three to four hook patterns weekly. Monitor each pattern's performance over time. When a pattern's engagement drops below the baseline, retire it for sixty days. Introduce new patterns from testing. The rotation keeps the feed unpredictable, which is exactly what the algorithm and the audience reward.
