Maintaining Authenticity

The prospect can tell when a message was written by a system. Not because of spelling errors or template markers — those are amateur mistakes. They can tell because the personalization feels transactional. "I noticed your company raised $50M" followed immediately by a pitch is not personalization. It is a trigger-to-pitch pipeline with the thinnest veneer of relevance. Authentic personalization demonstrates genuine understanding. It connects their situation to your expertise in a way that creates value even if they never become a customer. The message itself should be worth reading. If the prospect deletes it, they should lose something — an insight, a perspective, a data point.

Do This

  • Connect the personalization to a genuine insight that provides value independent of your product
  • Write the message as if you would send it even if you had nothing to sell
  • Let the AI draft, then edit for authenticity — remove anything that sounds templated

Avoid This

  • Use personalization as a pretense for a pitch — prospects see through trigger-to-pitch immediately
  • Send messages where removing the personalization line would not change the rest of the email
  • Scale so aggressively that quality control becomes impossible and authenticity disappears
