Question Sequencing

3 min read

Order matters. The same ten questions asked in different sequences produce different outcomes. The reason is psychological anchoring — the first question sets the frame for everything that follows. "What is your biggest challenge right now?" anchors on problems. "What is your team's biggest win this quarter?" anchors on success. The information you gather is shaped by the frame you set. Deliberate sequencing means choosing the frame intentionally, not accidentally.

The proven sequence for enterprise discovery: start with a success question to build rapport and understand what they value. Follow with a challenge question to surface the gap. Then a process question to understand how they work today. Then a consequence question to quantify the cost. Close with a vision question to establish where they want to be. The gap between consequence and vision is your opportunity. The prospect defined it. You just asked the right questions in the right order.
