Stage Change Triggers
3 min read
Every stage change is an event that can trigger automation. When a deal moves from Lead to Qualified, the system can automatically create a discovery call task, send the rep a checklist of qualification questions, and notify the solutions engineer to prepare. When a deal moves to Proposal, it can auto-generate a proposal template, schedule a review meeting, and alert finance to prepare pricing. Stage-based automation eliminates the gap between "the deal moved" and "the next action starts."
- Forward Stage Triggers When a deal advances to the next stage, trigger: task creation for the next required activities, internal notifications to supporting roles (SE, finance, legal), and data collection prompts for fields required at the new stage. Every forward move generates a clear action plan automatically.
- Backward Stage Triggers When a deal moves backward (Proposal back to Discovery), trigger: manager alert, required reason code, and a follow-up task for the rep to document what happened. Backward moves are signals that something went wrong — the automation ensures they are noticed and investigated.
- Stall Triggers When a deal stays in a single stage beyond the expected duration, trigger: day 7 — reminder to the rep. Day 14 — alert to the manager. Day 21 — flag for the weekly pipeline review. Day 30 — auto-mark as "At Risk." Escalating stall triggers prevent deals from silently aging out.
