Emerging Regulation Tracking

3 min read

The regulatory landscape for AI is not static — it is expanding. New frameworks are proposed quarterly. Existing frameworks are amended annually. Enforcement guidance is issued continuously. Emerging regulation tracking is the practice of monitoring proposed legislation, draft regulations, and interpretive guidance to anticipate compliance requirements before they become enforceable.

  1. Legislative Monitoring Track proposed AI legislation in every jurisdiction where you or your clients operate. For each proposal, assess: what obligations would it create? When would it take effect? How would it interact with existing frameworks? The assessment determines whether to begin compliance preparation now or monitor for final enactment.
  2. Impact Pre-Assessment For proposed regulations likely to pass, conduct a preliminary impact assessment: which AI systems would be affected? What new controls would be required? What existing controls would need modification? The pre-assessment enables proactive compliance preparation. [RECOMMEND]: Pre-assess any proposed regulation that has passed committee or received bipartisan support.
  3. Compliance Readiness Timeline For each emerging regulation, estimate the compliance timeline: effective date minus implementation time equals the date you must begin preparation. Map all emerging compliance timelines on a single view so resource allocation accounts for overlapping preparation windows.
