AI-Augmented Clause Analysis

3 min read

AI augmentation at the 301 level goes beyond the basic AI review workflow from LR-201a. Advanced AI-augmented analysis uses the AI to perform cross-reference validation, obligation chain tracing, and contradiction detection across the entire document simultaneously. The AI holds the complete document in context, identifies interactions that a human reviewer would need multiple passes to find, and presents the findings as a structured interaction map.

Do This

  • Use AI to map all cross-references in a single analysis pass — the AI can identify every provision-to-provision reference simultaneously
  • Prompt the AI to identify provisions that interact with a specific high-risk clause — targeted interaction analysis accelerates the risk pass
  • Validate AI findings with human judgment before acting — the AI identifies patterns, the human determines whether the pattern creates actionable risk

Avoid This

  • Accept AI interaction analysis as the final word — the AI maps structural relationships but does not understand business context
  • Use AI analysis as a substitute for the multi-pass review — augmentation adds a dimension, it does not replace the methodology
  • Feed the AI a partial document and expect complete analysis — partial input produces partial findings, and the missing provisions may be the most important ones
