Multi-Language Typography

Typography systems designed for English break when applied to other languages. Character sets vary (Latin, CJK, Arabic, Devanagari). Reading directions vary (LTR, RTL, vertical). Line height requirements vary (CJK typically needs 1.5-1.8x versus Latin's 1.4x). Even within Latin scripts, languages differ — German compound words create longer strings; French accents require more vertical space.

For AI-generated assets targeting multiple languages: build the type system with the most demanding language in the set. If the asset will be localized into Japanese, the line height minimum should be 1.6x (not 1.4x), the font must include CJK glyphs, and the layout must accommodate vertical reading direction as an option. Exo 2 does not support CJK — a substitution font is required for those characters, and the substitution must be harmonious: Noto Sans JP matches Exo 2's geometric aesthetic better than a calligraphic alternative.

The brand enforcement system includes language-specific rules. English assets use the standard type specification. CJK assets use an extended specification with wider line height, CJK-compatible font stack, and modified spacing rules. The context-aware rule system (from GFX-301d) selects the appropriate specification based on the target language metadata in the generation request.
