Extraction Templates
3 min read
Extraction without a template produces inconsistent output. One source gets three paragraphs of analysis. Another gets a bullet point. A third gets a verbatim quote with no context. When these fragments reach the synthesis phase, they are impossible to compare because they are structured differently.
Extraction templates solve this by standardizing the output format for every source. A competitive extraction template might require: company name, product name, pricing model, stated differentiator, customer quote or case study reference, and limitation or gap. Every source gets the same fields. Some fields will be "not found" — and that absence is information. If a competitor has no public case studies, that is a data point about their market maturity.
