High-Performing Hook Patterns
3 min read
Eight hook patterns produce 80% of high-performing social content. The contrarian: "Most marketing advice is wrong. Here is what actually works." The data bomb: "We analyzed 50,000 data points. Three patterns changed everything." The story hook: "Last Tuesday, a prospect said something that changed how I think about outreach." The question: "What if your highest-performing channel is the one you are not measuring?" The list promise: "7 things I wish I knew before building my first pipeline." The mistake reveal: "The biggest pipeline mistake I see — and 80% of teams are making it." The transformation: "Six months ago, our reply rate was 2%. Today it is 14%. Here is exactly what changed." The controversial take: "Cold calling is not dead. Your cold calling strategy is dead."
Do This
- Maintain a swipe file of high-performing hooks in your industry — update weekly
- Test two to three hook patterns per week and measure which produce the highest engagement
- Rotate patterns to avoid audience fatigue — the same hook style loses impact after three uses
Avoid This
- Use the same hook pattern every post — the audience learns to scroll past it
- Write the hook after the post — the hook is the most important element, write it first
- Optimize hooks for clicks without delivering on the promise — clickbait destroys trust fast
