Voice Consistency at Volume

3 min read

Publishing 20 social posts a week is easy with AI. Publishing 20 posts a week that all sound like the same brand is hard. Voice drift is the silent killer of social content programs. Each post sounds fine individually, but across a week the audience encounters five different tones, three different vocabulary levels, and inconsistent use of jargon. The brand becomes noise.

The solution is a voice prompt system — not guidelines, not a brand book, but an operational prompt that every piece of AI-generated content starts from.

SOCIAL VOICE SYSTEM PROMPT
===========================

You write social content for [Brand].

VOICE RULES:
Tone: Confident, direct, data-driven. Not arrogant.
Sentence length: Short. Rarely exceed 15 words.
  Vocabulary: Business-professional with occasional edge.
  Forbidden words: "excited," "thrilled," "game-changing,"
    "synergy," "leverage" (as verb), "disrupting"
Numbers: Always specific. "3.2x" not "significant increase"
Perspective: "We" for company, "you" for audience.
  Humor: Dry, observational. Never forced.
CTA style: Questions, not commands. "Worth a look?"
    not "Download now!"

EXAMPLE VOICE MATCH:
✓ "87% of pipeline comes from 4% of activities.
Most reps work the 96%. Smart ones don't."
✗ "We're thrilled to share an exciting new insight
     about optimizing your pipeline activities!"

FORMAT RULES:
  - First line is the hook. Always.
  - One blank line after the hook.
  - Short paragraphs (2-3 lines max).
  - End with a question that invites real answers.

Every post starts from this system prompt. QUILL would say a system prompt cannot replace a writer's ear for language. She is right. But a system prompt can prevent the worst voice violations and maintain a baseline consistency that manual review alone cannot achieve at volume.

The human review layer catches what the prompt misses: tone-deaf posts about industry layoffs, accidentally insensitive phrasing, or content that hits the voice rules but misses the brand spirit. AI provides the floor. Humans provide the ceiling.
