War Room Retrospective
3 min read
Every war room activation ends with a retrospective — conducted one to two weeks after the acute phase concludes. The retrospective evaluates three areas: intelligence performance (was the trigger detected early enough? Was the rapid assessment accurate? Did the surge fill the critical gaps?), coordination performance (did the cross-functional response execute on time? Were dependencies managed effectively?), and outcome assessment (did the response achieve its objectives? What was the competitive impact?).
- Intelligence Performance Review How many hours elapsed between the trigger event and detection? How accurate was the rapid assessment compared to the eventual comprehensive brief? What information gaps took longest to fill and why? The answers improve detection speed and assessment methodology for next time.
- Coordination Performance Review Did all action items execute on time? Where did dependencies cause delays? Were the right people in the war room or were key perspectives missing? The answers improve the activation protocol and role assignments.
- Outcome Assessment Did the competitive response achieve its intended outcome? What would the organization have done differently with the benefit of hindsight? Were there unexpected consequences of the response? The answers calibrate future response strategies.
