A prediction model that is never calibrated against actual outcomes is a theory. A prediction model that is calibrated quarterly against actual outcomes is a tool. The difference is whether you treat the model's predictions as conclusions or hypotheses. They are always hypotheses — and hypotheses that are not tested against reality become increasingly wrong over time as the organization, the roles, and the people change.

  1. Retrospective Validation Every quarter, compare the model's predictions against actual outcomes. Did the high-alignment hires outperform the low-alignment hires? Did the predicted failure modes manifest? Did the burnout risk scores correlate with actual departures? The retrospective validation tells you where the model is accurate and where it needs adjustment.
  2. Weight Adjustment Based on validation results, adjust the weights in your prediction model. If D-alignment predicts sales performance better than C-alignment for your specific organization, increase the D weight for sales roles. If S-alignment predicts engineering retention better than any other dimension, increase the S weight for engineering roles. The weights should reflect your data, not generic DISC literature.
  3. False Positive Analysis Examine cases where the model predicted high performance but actual performance was average or low. What did the model miss? External factors, team dynamics, management quality, and life events all influence performance independently of behavioral alignment. False positive analysis reveals the boundaries of what behavioral prediction can and cannot capture.
