Burnout Risk Detection
3 min read
Burnout is not caused by workload alone. It is caused by sustained behavioral misalignment — operating outside your natural profile dimensions for extended periods without recovery. The high-S individual in a high-D role burns out not because the hours are long, but because every interaction requires suppressing their natural steadiness and performing dominance. The adaptation energy runs out. The burnout follows. Behavioral burnout risk detection identifies who is spending the most adaptation energy before the burnout manifests as performance decline, disengagement, or departure.
Do This
- Map each person's adaptation load: how many role demands exceed their natural profile by 15+ points?
- Monitor for behavioral reversion: when a person stops performing their adapted style and reverts to their natural profile, adaptation energy is depleted
- Create recovery opportunities: periods where the person can operate in their natural profile to recharge adaptation capacity
Avoid This
- Assume burnout is only about hours worked — behavioral misalignment causes burnout at normal workloads
- Wait for visible burnout symptoms (cynicism, absenteeism, performance collapse) before intervening — those are late-stage indicators
- Treat burnout recovery as time off alone — the person needs role realignment or structural accommodation, not just rest
