Measuring Network Intelligence Impact
4 min read
Network intelligence impact is measured by comparing deal outcomes between deals with thorough network analysis and deals without. Three metrics matter. Surprise rate: the percentage of deals where a previously unknown stakeholder or relationship affected the outcome. Network-analyzed deals should have a surprise rate below 10%. Deals without network analysis typically have surprise rates above 40%. Access quality: the percentage of high-influence stakeholders who were directly engaged during the evaluation. Network-analyzed deals should achieve 80%+ direct engagement with high-influence stakeholders. Forecast accuracy: the difference between predicted outcome and actual outcome. Network analysis improves forecast accuracy because it captures the structural factors that determine outcomes, not just the visible progress indicators.
- Track Surprise Rate After every deal conclusion, document whether any stakeholder or relationship that affected the outcome was not in the network map. Each surprise is a failure of network intelligence. Aggregate across deals to measure the function's coverage quality. Target: fewer than one surprise per ten deals.
- Track Access Quality For every deal, measure the percentage of high-influence stakeholders (influence weight: strong) who were directly engaged with profile-calibrated communication. Deals where fewer than 60% of high-influence stakeholders were directly engaged have structurally lower win probability, regardless of solution fit or pricing.
- Track Forecast Accuracy Improvement Compare forecast accuracy for deals with network analysis against the organizational baseline. If the overall win rate prediction is 40% accurate and network-analyzed deals are 65% accurate, the 25-point improvement is the measurable value of network intelligence. Present this comparison to justify continued investment in network analysis methodology.
